Ira Acharya
Ira Acharya was a dedicated leading social volunteer of Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) metroplex, Texas, USA. She served in many social organizations of DFW since 2006 to till her death on 08 November, 2019. Her mission was to help the needy women and children living in the vicious cycle of poverty in any part of the world. She was a source of inspiration to many people to involve in the welfare of human beings.
In December 2018, Ira was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer. Initially, when the doctors were successful to remove a large tumor from her stomach, they said
“Ira, you won the battle. Now, the war begins…”.
They started chemotherapy to eradicate the cancer cells from her body. But, one day, the doctors said that she had very limited time to survive- 2 months without chemo or 8 painful months if chemotherapy continued

She chose to live more months and continue to serve the humanity even she was in her death bed. The 8 months, she had chosen to survive, were very, very painful to her. Ira volunteered as a member of Board of Directors in Women Empowerment and Orphans and Vulnerable Children Education activities of Development for Peace International from 2010 to till her death.
One day, when she had very limited time to survive, she expressed her desire to continue her mission of empowering socially marginalized women and children in remote parts of Nepal. Her friends, with tear filled eyes, vowed to continue the projects in her name

Ira Acharya Memorial Scholarship Fund
After her death, per the commitment with Ira, Development for Peace International initiated a fund-raising campaign to establish “Ira Acharya Memorial Scholarship Fund” in various schools in the remote parts of Nepal. An amount of around US $ 10,000.00 was raised from community members and Ira’s relatives. From that donation amount, the organization established Scholarship Funds in four schools in remote areas of Nepal.
The impact of the scholarship funds was so impressive that more and more schools requested for the establishment of scholarship funds in their schools. So, the organization decided to continue the establishment of more and more trusts in different schools in Nepal.
